Doisy Leo Bruner age 74, of Creve Coeur, Illinois passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Illinois.

Funeral services celebrating Doisy’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2023, at the Crain Funeral Home, Newton, Illinois with Pastor Larry “Red” Matson officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of service in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Mound Cemetery, Willow Hill, Illinois. Military rites will be offered by Jasper Post No. 20 of the American Legion.

Doisy was born on September 27, 1948, in Stewardson, Illinois the son of Leo Arthur Bruner and Rosabell Elaine Fitzpatrick. In 1966, Doisy enlisted in the United States Army. Following his tours in Vietnam, he made the military his life career, working in aircraft maintenance and combat engineering. He retired, after twenty-three years of service, as a master sergeant. He later joined the Teamsters’ Union as a concrete truck driver until his retirement.

In his free time, Doisy enjoyed all forms of racing, especially NASCAR. He enjoyed sitting outside, visiting with his neighbors and smoking cigarettes. He liked to watch the news. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post No. 7537, Newton. He will be remembered by his family as a loving dad, brother and grampus.

Survivors include his children Jeff Bruner, wife Deane of Ville Platte, LA, Kim Newell, husband Robert of Waltonville, IL, Stacy Bruner of Gastonia, NC, Bobbi Mishler, husband John of Gastonia, NC and Jenifer Medford of Gastonia, NC; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings Terry Alan of Creve Coeur, IL, Sherry Bruner of Oblong, IL, Tammy Dillard of Columbia, TN, Eric Bruner of Olney, IL and Jay Bruner of Creve Coeur, IL and step-mother Alberta Bruner Olney, Illinois.

His father Leo Bruner, mother Rose Fitzpatrick and brothers Ronnie Bruner and Randy Alan preceded him in death.

Memorial gifts in honor of Doisy may be made to the American Lung Association or to the Veterans of Foreign War.
