Reverend Leon Drew Holloway died peacefully in Nashville, TN at the age of 69 on March 18, 2023, surrounded by family.
Drew is survived by his wife Anne M. Jones; and children, Alison Montgomery (Timothy Montgomery) and Anna Holloway; granddaughter Evie Holloway; and his brother, James Earle Holloway, Jr. (Bea Berry). He is preceded in death by his father, James Earle Holloway; his mother, Marguerite Tidmarsh Holloway; and his sister, Harriett Blair Holloway.
Drew was born on April 20, 1953 in Lake City, South Carolina to Mr. Earle and Ms. Tid. He grew up working in his father’s furniture store, and was involved in the Presbyterian church youth group. At Lake City High School, Drew was an All-State football player and Co-President of his senior class during the time of integration. He graduated from Wake Forest in 1975 (Go Deacs!) with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Drew was called to the ministry during his post-collegiate education at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary - Masters of Divinity; it was there he met his wife, Anne. Drew and Anne were married in 1978 in Louisville, Kentucky. After graduating Seminary in 1979, Reverend Holloway served churches in Otterville & Bowling Green, Missouri, and Effingham, Illinois at the First Presbyterian Church for 25 years. Upon retirement, Drew and Anne relocated to Lake City, South Carolina before finally moving to Nashville, TN in 2022, where Anne currently resides.
Drew was a born storyteller. He was passionate about his family, friends and people he met. Drew was your man for sports trivia, playing sports, talking about sports, and especially the Demon Deacons. “Poor Preacher Pots”, the name of his pottery business, was his hobby, and from his hands simple blocks of clay were molded into beautiful pottery with bluegrass, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Johnny Cash playing in the background. Through his steadfast faith, Drew leaves a legacy and reminder for all to serve their community, foster relationships with integrity, honesty, and patience. Above all, family, he was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He loved us well indeed.
The funeral is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Friday, March 31, 2023 at Lake City Presbyterian Church, Lake City, South Carolina, with a burial to follow at the Lake City Cemetery on Church Street. The family will be receiving family and friends at their family home, 224 Magnolia Street, on April 1, 2023 from 12:00 noon to 4:00 PM. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Drew’s life.
