Edward Ungrund (86) of Effingham

Edward R. Ungrund, age 86, of Effingham, IL, passed away at home on Monday, March 20, 2023.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Edward was born on October 18, 1936, in Effingham County, the son of John and Anna (Lawrence) Ungrund. He graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1954. He married Alice Pals on April 15, 1961, and she survives. Edward served with the Illinois National Guard. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Effingham, where he served on the school board and maintenance board in past years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 665. He was lifelong bricklayer and member of the International Union of Bricklayers.

Edward is survived by his wife, Alice of Effingham; two children, Lee (Linda) Ungrund of Box Elder, SD and Kay (Keith) Foreman of Effingham; five grandchildren, Lance (Rachel) Ungrund of Martinsville, IN, Lynnette Ungrund of Denver, CO, Logan Ungrund of Martinsville, IN, Nathan Foreman (Dana) of New Castle, CO, and Isaac Foreman (McKenzie) of Edwardsville, IL; two great-grandchildren, MacKenzie Ungrund and Axel Ungrund; and sister-in-law, Wilma Buhnerkempe.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Henry Ungrund; sister, Marguerite Will; sisters-in-law, Helen Ungrund and Marie Pike; and brothers-in-law, Louis Will, Laverne Buhnerkempe, and John Pike.
