Alberta J. Darling, age 92, of Greenup, IL passed away at 7:44 pm on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at her residence.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Thursday March 16, 2023 at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to service time on Thursday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in the Greenup Cemetery.

Alberta was born in rural Greenup, IL on June 22, 1930, to R. Gerald and Cleo (Sperry) Dunn. She married Lloyd L. “Tiny” Darling on November 18, 1949, and he preceded in 1988.

Survivors include a son Terry Duane (Kathy) Darling; daughters in law Patty Judson (Randy) and Linda Carlen (Ronnie Dean); grandchildren Brian (Micha) Darling, Shane (Erica) Darling, Chad (Sarah) Darling, Elaine Landers, Chris (Julie) Darling, and Nathan (Donnelle) Darling; 13 great grandchildren; Hunter Darling, Bryant Darling, Felicity Augburn, Kansas Price, Presleigh Cassidy, Ethan Darling, Maddy Darling, Cody Landers, Mary Darling, Joseph Darling, Sadie Darling, Kallie Darling and Oaklynn Darling; sister Donna (Gene) Carlen.

Alberta was preceded in death by her parents and two sons Jerry Lee Darling and Allen Dean Darling: two sisters Freda (Russell) Markwell and Virginia (Euris) Henderson.

Alberta was a homemaker and a Kitchen supervisor at the Cumberland Nursing Center for 25 years, she also worked for Peace Meal for 7 years; she was selected as Cumberland County’s Outstanding Senior Volunteer in 1999. Alberta was very active in her community and her church. She loved music and was a talented organist. She played at church and many funerals over the years. Alberta was known for her cooking and baked goods, always sharing with neighbors and shut-ins (especially breads and cinnamon rolls). Alberta once said, “if there’s food involved, I’m usually around.” This included the annual church bazaar and bake sales, along with many other community events.
