M. Joann Burton 81, of rural Toledo, Illinois, passed away surrounded by family at 10:15 AM Thursday, March 2, 2023 in the Heartland Senior Living Center in Neoga, Illinois.
She was born June 12, 1941 in Cumberland County, Illinois the daughter of Ivan L. And Myrna A. (Walker) Cooper. Joann married Robert Burton June 21, 1964 in Neoga, Illinois. Mrs. Burton was a retired school teacher, she taught for the Mattoon School District for 34 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Neoga, Illinois, The Order Of Eastern Star in Toledo, Illinois and the Retired Teacher’s Association. She loved teaching , being a grandma and vacationing.
Joann is survived by her husband of 59 years, Robert "Bob" Burton of rural Toledo, Illinois; son, Timothy Burton (Rhonda) of Effingham, Illinois; daughter, Stacey Burton-Morris of rural Neoga, Illinois; three grandchildren, Myrna Morris, Kaitlyn and Dylan Burton; brothers, James Cooper (Celeste) of Joliet, Illinois and David Cooper (Sandy) of Mt. Zion, Illinois; sister, Karen Humphrey (John) of Loudon, Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church of Neoga, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday March 8, 2023 in the First Christian Church in Neoga, Illinois. Visitation will be held Tuesday March 7, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the Swengel - O’Dell Funeral Home in Neoga, Illinois. Burial will be in the Long Point Cemetery of Neoga, Illinois.
