Joyce Ann Lewis, age 88, of Wheeler, Illinois, passed away at 11:52 PM Friday, March 3, 2023, at Stonebridge Memory Care in Effingham, Illinois.
Funeral services celebrating Joyce’s life will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Dieterich, Illinois, with Mike Elliott officiating. Burial will be in the Wheeler Cemetery in Wheeler, Illinois. Visitation will be held 2 hours before the service. Joyce was born on September 27, 1934, in Urbana, Illinois, the daughter of Dwight S. and Amy Ione (Brooks) Mitchell. She was graduated from Newton Community High School with the Class of 1951. Following high school, she worked at the Jasper County Home Extension Office. On April 19, 1953, she was united in marriage to Charles Edward Lewis, and to the marriage six children were born Diane, David, Carolyn, Steven, James and Jeffrey. Charles passed away on November 10, 2015.
Joyce worked at UTA in Newton and Fedder’s in Effingham for several years. She was a member of the Wheeler Christian Church, Jasper County Home Extension and severed as assistant 4-H leader for several years.
Joyce enjoyed gardening, canning, going to water aerobics at the Workman Center in Effingham, and spending time with her family and friends.
Joyce is survived by: 6 Children- Diane Jones of Evansville, Indiana; David C. (Ruby) Lewis of Louisville, Illinois; Carolyn J. Lewis of Wheeler, Illinois; Steven A. (Debra) Lewis of Montrose, Illinois; James L. (Lana) Lewis of Marshall, Illinois and Jeffrey D. Lewis (Carrie) of Marshall, Illinois; Grandchildren- Mary (David) Lindsey, Myra (Bill) Laycoax, David M. Lewis, Joshua Jones, Dr. Jared (Dr. Lisa Phifer) Jones, Shawn (Jennifer) Lewis, Dr. Tiffany (David) Allen, Brady Lewis, Daniel (Tabatha) Lewis, Jessica Lewis, Justin Lewis, Amber Rush, Chris (Ashley) Rush, Amber Chapman, Andrew Chapman, and Alan Chapman; 20 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great-great Grandchildren; Sister – Sandra Cleland of Effingham, Illinois.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister Emma Rose Mitchell.
