Elsie Evelyn Rueter, 89, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Effingham Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.
Funeral services will be held at 10: 00 a.m. on Friday, February 24, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Arborcrest Memorial Park in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Elsie was born on April 8, 1933, in Effingham, IL, the daughter of Virgil R. Sr. and Stella M. (Miller) Ashley She married Robert F. Rueter on August 5, 1950, in Effingham, IL and he preceded her in death on September 22, 2015.
Elsie was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her beloved dog Gizmo. She was a devoted Christian and a member of the Willow Street Church of Christ which is now Cornerstone Christian Church in Effingham. Elsie loved to cook and bake as well as play board games and do puzzles.
Elsie is survived by her five children, Robert E. Rueter Jr. of Effingham, Richard (Marilyn) Rueter of Branson, MO, Brenda Bremmer of Indianapolis, IN, Karen Rueter of Effingham, and Kevin (Belinda) Rueter of Louisville, IL; 21 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchidlren; and sister, Linda Nees of Edgewood.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; son-in-law, Galen Bremmer; 4 grandchildren; and 14 brothers and sisters.
