Vera Huey (92) of Effingham

Vera Huey, 92, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at her home in Effingham.

In accordance with her wishes, her body will be cremated. A private family service will be held with burial in Arborcrest Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be given to Community Support Systems or to the donor’s choice. Arrangements are in the care of Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham.

Vera was born May 9, 1930 in Campbell Hill, the daughter of Rev. Harry C. and Alma Welp. She married Robert Huey on January 31, 1953 at the Lutheran church in Campbell Hill. Vera spent most of her life focusing on her family and charities supporting the underprivileged. She was on the Community Support Systems board of directors from 1975 to 1987, serving as chairman of the board for several of those years. Vera also served on the board of directors at the state level for CSS for over twenty years.

Vera is survived by her husband, Bob of Effingham; sons, Robert “Bob Jr.” (Dixie) of Effingham and Randy of St. Louis; daughter, Cathy (Jerry) Bloemer of Effingham; grandchildren, Zac (Laura) Bloemer, Wade (Brittany) Bloemer, Logan Bloemer, Dakota Huey, Dylan (Rachel) Huey, Robert Huey and Sydney (Joe) Kuensting; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Doris Russell.

Those preceding her in death were her parents; sisters, Phyllis Russell, Marion Welp, and Ruth Rohlfing; brothers Tom and Paul Welp.
