Jack Eugene Bail (72) of St. Elmo

Jack Eugene Bail, age 72, of St. Elmo, Illinois passed away suddenly after a brief illness at 10:22 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2023, with his family by his side.

Funeral service will be Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at Pagel Funeral Homes in St. Elmo, Illinois with a one hour viewing prior to the service. Visitation will be Friday, February 10, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Memorials may go to Second Chance Animal Shelter of Fayette County, American Heart Association, or the donor’s choice. Jack was born July 18, 1950, in Oak Lawn, Illinois, the son of Dale Eugene and Erma (Rush) Bail. He was raised in Oak Lawn where he made many friendships that lasted his entire life. He married Barbara McFadden on June 2, 1980 in Chicago. In Jack’s own words for a recent anniversary, he wrote this: “We met at a party my roommate and I had. Lucky for us there were four girls living in the apartment below us. One was a dental assistant who invited Barb to the party also. We met and fell in love. We weathered stormy times together and enjoyed seeing our children grow up. The joy of grandchildren and great grandchildren. The trip together is not over yet. Many more miles to go. She looks at me at times, shakes her head and says I thought I could change you. Love you with all my heart.” They lived in several places and finally purchased family land in St. Elmo and built a wonderful home there. They enjoyed many get-togethers with family and friends and had many parties and family reunions at this home. Jack joined the Air Force in 1969 and proudly served four years during the time of the Vietnam conflict. He enjoyed cars, animals and being surrounded by his family.

Jack is survived by his mother, Erma Budlove; loving wife, Barbara Bail of St. Elmo, Illinois; four daughters, Andrea Tramutolo (husband Stephen), Jennifer Bail, Alison Bail and Haleigh Bail; four grandchildren, David Carrillo, Aaron Tramutolo, Samuel Tramutolo and Sophie Greenman; two great-grandchildren, Hayley Carrillo and Lilah Bubb; three brothers, James Bail (wife Linda), Jerry “Al” Bail (wife Mary) and John “Scott” Bail (wife Sharon); several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Dale Bail and stepfather, James Budlove.
