Elizabeth Jean Taylor, 70, of Clay City, passed away at 1:40 pm EST, Friday, January 27, 2023 at the Terre Houte Regional Hospital, Heart to Heart Hospice Unit, Terre Haute, Indiana with her family by her side.

Elizabeth was born on July 30, 1952, at her home in Oskaloosa Township, the daughter of Carl Edward Taylor and Elizabeth Betty (Skelton) Taylor. She married Ralph Wayne Taylor on January 7, 1984, and they shared 22 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on July 5, 2006. She worked various jobs over the years as a CNA at the Flora Hospital and in Olney in the nursing home. She volunteered in the Flora Food Pantry, Clay County Hospital, and Meals on Wheels. Jean had several service degrees as a CNA, EMT and worked in Cisne, and was a CPR instructor. She love to write articles for several papers about the happenings in Clay City. Jean was a member of the Rebekahs in Flora.

Jean is survived by her children: Stacey (Richard) Wilken of Paris, Illinois, Charles (Lupe) Allen, Jr. of Holly Ridge, North Carolina, Richard Allen of Terre Haute, Indiana, Lynn (Teresa) Jones of Effingham; step children: Bobby (Patti) Taylor of Florida, Mary (Robert) Cole of Clay City; 17 grandchildren, she shared a special relationship with her granddaughter Libby Jones; numerous great grandchildren; 3 brothers: Carl “Bud” (Lydia) Taylor of Clay City, Robert Gray of Clairemont, Randy Taylor of Olney; 3 sisters: Patty Ann (Rodney) Williams of Albion, Tammy (Mike) Miller of Lawrenceville, Connie Rockwood of Clay City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; daughter: Bertha Ann Taylor, step daughter: Linda Stanford; brother: Bill Bennett; 2 sisters: Barbara Lewis, and Donna Goff.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Jean will be held at 12:00 pm, Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at the McGriff Funeral Home in Louisville. Burial will follow at the Oskaloosa Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday morning at the funeral home where friends may call from 11:00 to 12:00. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to assist with final expenses.
