Judy Christine Atkinson, 73, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 11:02 a.m. Thursday, January 26, 2023 in her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2023 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Bob Turner officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Robinson Creek Cemetery, near Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to her family.

Judy was born on January 5, 1950 in Shelbyville, IL, to Delbert and Novella Whitwell Lape. She started school in the Clarksburg schoolhouse until her family moved to Shelbyville.

She married Denny Atkinson on March 7, 1978 during the “Blizzard of ’78”. They lived and worked on the family farm in Findlay for several years. She also worked at Shelby Memorial Hospital, Stan’s Steak House and Wade’s Quality Meats until her retirement in 2011.

The most important thing to Judy was her family. She enjoyed big family dinners, spending time with her kids, grandkids, great grandkids and best friends Brayden and Breaton. She loved baking with her sister, Arlene, and watching baking and cooking videos for new recipes.

She is survived by her children, Neka Atkinson (Jamie) and Zac Atkinson both of Shelbyville, IL; grandchildren, Brennon Atkinson, Kyla Brown, Casey Hewkin (Brian); great grandkids, Noah and Chloe Hewkin and Brayden and Breaton; sisters, Beverly Fleshner and Arlene Roberts both of Shelbyville, IL and Sandra Owen of Plainfield, IN; sisters-in-law, Norma Lape, Brenda Reynolds (Alan), Becky Leverenz (Jim), Pam Donnel (Gary) and Debbie Kyle (Steve); and several nieces and nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Denny; brothers, Max and Gale Lape; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jack and Irma Atkinson; brothers-in-law, Tom Fleshner, Nick Roberts and Dan Owen; niece, Connie Miller; and nephew, Chad Lape.

Judy was loved by all who knew her. The last few weeks of her life she got exactly what she wanted. She wanted to be able to stay home and enjoy her family.
