Rick L. “Pickle” Benefield, age 69, of Sainte Marie, Illinois, and a former resident of Newton, Illinois and Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away at 7:25 PM Monday, January 23, 2023, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburg, Indiana.
Funeral services celebrating Rick’s life will be held at 12:00 PM (Noon) – Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois, with Chris Parr officiating. Burial will be in the Hunt Cemetery – Yale, Illinois. Visitation will be held 2 hours before the service. Rick was born on August 23, 1953, in Paris, Illinois, the son of Charles Robert and Thelma (Osbourne) Benefield. He was a welder for many years. Rick was known far and wide over the years as member of the band Horizon. He was an avid guitar player and songwriter. Rick enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing pool and visiting with family and friends.
Rick is survived by: Children – Shannon (Kelly) Benefield of Vincennes, Indiana; Heather Wilson (Brandon Smith) of Wheeler, Illinois; Amber (Ed) Parr of Newton, Illinois; Travis Benefield of West Liberty, Illinois and Jesse Benefield of Olney, Illinois; Sisters – Carol Piercefield of Newton, Illinois and Sue Wilson of Olney, Illinois; Many Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Randall Wilson, Robert Lewis and Bill Benefield and a sister Sandy Lowe.
