Berlyn Yockey, Jr. age 87, of Willow Hill passed away Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital, Olney.

Funeral services celebrating Berlyn’s life will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, January 31, at the Crain Funeral Home, Newton. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Mound Cemetery, rural Jasper County.

Berlyn was born on February 28, 1935 in Jasper County, Illinois, the son of Berlyn Yockey, Sr. and Emma Miller Yockey. On January 29, 1954, Berlyn married Guyla Mae Inskeep. They shared sixty-seven years of marriage before her death on April 7, 2021.

Berlyn valued hard work. In his early years, he worked in the oil fields and farmed. He served as custodian and bus driver for 17 years at Willow Hill School. Berlyn was the Hunt City Township Road Commissioner, prior to joining the Jasper County Highway Department where he worked until his retirement. Berlyn was a member of the Yale Church of Christ and the Jasper County Antique Tractor Club. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening and taking care of his yard and flowers.

He will be loved and remembered by his children Debbie (Roger) Sholders of Willow Hill, Monte (Bernie) Yockey of Yale, and Paula (Ed) Francis of Yale; grandchildren Lynnette (Tom) DuSablon of Fruitland, FL, Jerud (Chandi) Earnest of Mt. Carmel,IL, Todd (Sara) Sholders of Mt. Vernon, IL, Lindsay (Ethan) Weber of Newton, IL, Brandon (Pam) Francis of Newton, IL, Kim (Eric) Smothers of Robinson, IL and Bridget (Scott) Roberts of Evansville, IN; twenty-one great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; sisters-in-law Martha Yockey of Willow Hill; Kay Cramer of Yale, Carol (Larry) Abraham of Bloomington, IN, Marietta Swango of Bloomington, IN and Dianne Inskeep of Hazel Dell.

His father Berlyn Yockey, Sr. mother and step-father Emma and Arthur White, wife Guyla and brothers Virgil, Warren, Floyd, and Earl Yockey and sister Mary Wolfert preceded him in death.
