Homer Del “Butch” Walden, Jr., 79, of Shelbyville, IL, died at 12:16 p.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 23, 2023 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, with Rev. Ron Newman officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shelbyville, IL.
Butch was born on October 18, 1943 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Homer Dell and Mary Ellen (Sain) Walden. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1961. He married Carol Kronshagen on December 15, 1962 after a very short dating period. Butch worked for Short Furniture, Oliver Corporation and farmed with his dad. He then worked for 40 years at Shelby Electric Cooperative as a lineman and later as line superintendent, retiring in 2005. In his early years, Butch enjoyed hunting, mushroom hunting, and playing softball, and later took up the sport of golf. He was active in Shelbyville Little League Baseball and served as their commissioner for several years. Butch was a fan of all sports, was a die-hard Cardinal fan and loved going to all of his grandchildren’s sporting events. Butch had a very outgoing personality and never met a stranger.
He leaves behind his wife, Carol; son, Tony Walden (Debbie) of Charleston, IL; daughter, Beth Ann Musser (Ryan) of Shelbyville, IL; five grandchildren, Cody Walden (Hannah), Lee Walden (Kayla), Gunner Musser, Kinzee Musser, and Adison Musser; two great-grandchildren, Jordan Walden and Camden Walden; brother, Larry Dale Walden (Margaret) of Pulaski, TN; sister, Mary Ann Tucker (Gary) of Lyles, TN; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
