Marlene C. Nieman (82) of Effingham

Marlene C. Nieman, 82, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.

A memorial mass will be held at 10: 30 a.m. on Friday, January 27, 2023 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 27, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

Marlene was born on August 28, 1940, in Effingham, IL, the daughter of Allie and Celia (Hoene) Nieman.

Marlene graduated from St. Anthony High School and Mattoon School of Practical Nursing. She was a dedicated nurse, having worked at St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham and hospitals in Chicago and Champaign, IL. In retirement, she continued caring for the elderly in their homes. Marlene was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. She was also an avid walker, spending almost every morning at the mall with her walking partners. Those who walked with her often commented that they could not keep up with her. 

Marlene is survived by her sisters, Lucy Hewing (Tom) of Effingham and Joyce Nieman Monk (Jim) of Chicago; sisters-in-law, Judy Nieman and Dolores Nieman; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Harry, Bernie, and Virgil.
