Douglas C. Althoff, 69, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Willowbrook of Effingham.
A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2023 with a 6:00 p.m. walk-through by the Effingham Retired Volunteer Firefighters Association and a 7:00 p.m. Knights of Columbus Rosary at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

Doug was born on May 14, 1953, in Pittsburg, CA, the son of Charles K. and N. Alyene (Beers) Althoff. He married Gail Bass on July 30, 1971, in Effingham, IL. Doug worked for Illinois Consolidated before working and retiring from both Ameren Electric and Norris Electric. He was a union member with IBEW for over 50 years. Doug also was a volunteer Effingham Fireman and served as a city commissioner for 20 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Effingham Knights of Columbus Council 665. Doug enjoyed working. In his free time, he started and ran Effingham Tree Service and Althoff Stump Removal.
Doug is survived by his wife, Gail Althoff; daughters, Wendy (Tim) Donoghue, Emily (Scar) Sarker, Lisa (Greg) Little, and Lori (Ryan) Jefferson; grandchildren, Finn and Saoirse Donoghue, Nora and Maya Sarker, A.J. Little, and Clay, Coby, and Camille Jefferson; and sister, Denise (Brad) Lovelady.
He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Lawrence and Pauline Bass, and a sister in infancy.
