Dorothy E. Niebrugge, 86, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. rosary on Monday at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

Dorothy was born on March 30, 1936, in Effingham, IL, the ninth and youngest child of Leo and Lena (Haarman) Bourgeois. She married Norbert T. Niebrugge on April 27, 1957. He preceded her in death on August 7, 1989.
Dorothy was a graduate of St. Anthony High School in Effingham. She worked as a secretary at John Boos & Co. as well as St. Anthony Parish. She also farmed with her husband and son. Dorothy was a member of the Illinois Master Gardeners, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and Lake Sara Garden Club. She was also a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and the Ladies Sodality. She was active in Operation Christmas Child and an owner of The Flower Patch. Dorothy enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, sewing, playing cards, traveling, music, and dancing.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Patricia (Keith) Willenborg, Mary (Paul) Dust, Alan (Linda) Niebrugge, and Sara Niebrugge; grandchildren, Nicholas Willenborg, Rachel (Sam) Smith, Megan (John) Rice, Jenna (Eric) Jansen, Emily (Eric) Parker, Bradley (Tyndall) Niebrugge, Brandon (Teal) Niebrugge, Katie (Chris) Weber, and Megan (Mark) Heuerman; 10 beloved great-grandchildren and 2 more arriving soon; brother, Ralph (Ruthie) Bourgeois; sister-in-law, Anne Bourgeois; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Norbert Niebrugge; brothers, Jim Bourgeois and George Bourgeois; and sisters, Marie Koester, Betty Bourgeois, Alice Niccum, Ruth Brumleve, and Norma Lustig.
