Opal V. Baker, 96, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at her home with family by her side.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be shared by clicking here.
Opal was born on September 17, 1926, in Moccasin Township, Effingham County, IL, the daughter of Thomas L. and Alice Lucille (Doty) Phillips. She married Archie E. Baker on July 20, 1946 in Effingham. He preceded her in death on January 28, 2015. Opal enjoyed gardening alongside her husband and would often enter produce into the local fair competitions. She also frequently attended the Edgewood Opry to enjoy country music. Opal loved spending time with family and enjoyed feeding the birds, sewing, and crocheting. She was a wonderful woman who always had a smile on her face.
Opal is survived by her son, Bill Baker of Ottawa; daughter, Jodi Goodman of Effingham; daughter-in-law, Connie Baker of Beecher City; grandchildren, Miles (Kayla) Goodman, Shawna Goodman, and Marissa Miller; sister, Bonnie Kemme; and stepbrother, Bill Lilly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Janet Baker; son, Randy Baker; brothers, Cecil Phillips, Bob (Betty) Phillips, and Larry (Thelma) Phillips; sister, Doris “Doy” (Harry) Peters; stepfather, Jeff Lilly; and stepbrother, Oren Lilly.
