Viola Evelyn Frey (86) of Newton

Viola Evelyn Frey age 86 of Newton passed away Friday, December 23, 2022, at Helia Healthcare of Newton, Illinois.

Memorial services celebrating the life of Viola will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in Newton with Rev. Steve Willis officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church. Cremation rites were accorded to Mrs. Frey. Crain Funeral Home, Newton is assisting the family.

Viola was born on April 30, 1936 in Marion, Illinois, the daughter of Earl and Helen Edwards. On November 19, 1955, Viola married Lowell Eugene “Gene” Frey. He survives. Viola spent her life as a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newton. In her free time, she enjoyed bowling and playing games. Viola especially loved the game Social Security, which is a variation on the game Aggravation. Viola and Gene also enjoyed spending winters in Texas, which they did for sixteen winters.

Viola will be loved and remembered by her husband of sixty-seven years, Lowell E. “Gene” Frey of Newton; sons Russell Frey of Olney and Donald Frey of McLeansboro; daughter Kathy Drewes of Annapolis, Illinois and grandson Jonathan Frey of Effingham.

Her parents, brother Jack Edwards, sisters Mary Oyler and Almeda Edwards preceded her in death.
