Roger Joseph Normand, 86, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023 at his home.

Services will be held at a later date with burial in Westbrook Cemetery in Westbrook, Connecticut. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham is assisting the family.

Roger was born on August 23, 1936, in New Haven, Connecticut the son of Alphege and Pearl (LaPointe) Normand. Roger first married Beryl Sachs and to this union 4 daughters were born: Sara, Meg, Jenny, and Carrie. Roger later married Karlene Hatter and to this union two sons were born: Ernest and Peter.

Roger was a mechanical engineer in the printing industry for many years. He also served in the United States Army. Throughout his life, Roger found joy through volunteering. While living in Connecticut, he was a volunteer firefighter and a member of Stony Creek Fife and Drum Corps. He also was active with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts in Connecticut and later in Illinois. Roger was a Civil War reenactor throughout the Midwest for many years. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Effingham and volunteered in his faith through the Midwest Mission Distribution Center and NOMADS Mission Volunteers.

Roger is survived by his 6 children; 4 grandsons; 1 great-granddaughter; sister, Noreen Normand; and companion, Carol Martin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Beryl; and second wife, Karlene.
