James Tate, Jr. (99) of Effingham

James Tate, Jr., 99 of Effingham, passed away Monday, January 2, 2023 at The Glenwood in Effingham.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, January 9, 2023 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with burial in Elder Cemetery, Kinmundy, with military graveside rights. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am to the time of service, Monday at the funeral home.
Jim was born November 14, 1923 in Salem, the son of James Sr. and Lona (Wilkenson) Tate. He married Marjorie Louise Courson on September 1, 1945 in Macon and she preceded him in death on May 30, 2010. Jim served in the United States Army during WWII. He was wounded in Germany on November 18, 1944, and was later awarded the purple heart, along with other medals.
Jim was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Effingham, Masonic A.F. & A.M., and Wabash Lodge #179 in Etna. He was also a member of Swords of Bunker Hill, Mattoon V.F.W., Effingham American Legion, and D.A.V.
Jim is survived by his children, William (Karen) of Boise, ID, Judith (Harold) Meyer of Effingham and Donald (Pat) Tate of Effingham; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 64 years, Marjorie.
