Kenneth Craig Stein (71) of Altamont

Kenneth Craig Stein, 71, of Altamont died at 6:09 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at home surrounded by family.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2023 at St. Paul Lutheran Church (ELCA), Altamont with Rev. Maria Bonine officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Craig was born on Thursday, October 4, 1951 in Effingham, IL to Adrian and Betty K. (Mesnard) Stein. He married Sherry Bricker on December 26, 1972. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church (ELCA) He had been a school bus driver in Altamont for Unit 10 and had worked local auction companies; Francis Auction, Altamont, Hannigan Auction, St. Elmo, and Schmid Auction, Teutopolis. Around Christmas time in the past he enjoyed helping Santa and had been know to don the red suit and install outside decorations at home.

He is survived by his wife with whom he had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, Sherry of Altamont; sons, Troy (Jennifer) Stein of Ocala, FL, Travis (Shelli) Stein of Altamont, Nicky (Megan) Stein of Effingham, and Ricky (Sarah) Stein of Greenup; brothers, Larry E. Stein of Effingham and Richard “Scott” Stein of Effingham; sister, Dee Adria (Mark) Robeson of Altamont; 5 grandchildren, Jaron, Dalton, Jaxon, Lilly and Liam; many nieces and nephews.

Craig was preceded in death by: his parents; niece, Shannon Robeson Thilker and sister-in-law, Janet Stein.
