Ruth A. Cole (91) of Etna

Ruth A. Cole, 91 of Etna, Illinois, passed away at 5:36 PM Saturday December 24, 2022 in her residence.

She was born June 9, 1931 in Coles County, Illinois the daughter of Maxey and Erma (Overmeyer) Drennan. She married Glenn E. "Bud" Cole November 8, 1953 in Etna, Illinois. Mr. Cole passed away September 27, 2016. Ruth was a retired Registered Nurse for Mattoon Memorial Hospital and Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Care Center in Mattoon, Illinois. Mrs. Cole was a member of the United Methodist Church in Etna, Illinois and the American Nurse’s Association. She taught Sunday School for many years and enjoyed, knitting, crocheting, embroidering, painting, rose gardening and watching birds at the feeder.

Ruth is survived by her children, Melinda Effner (Steve) of Mattoon, Illinois, Betty Henderson (Kent) of Toledo, Illinois, Cinda Pringle (Stephen) of Oreana, Illinois, Maxey Cole (Susan) of Mattoon, Illinois, Terry Cole (Linda) of Charleston, Illinois, Dan Cole (Lisa) of Toledo, Illinois and Brian Cole (Tracy) of Charleston, Illinois; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; sister in law, Donna Cole Trog of Mattoon, Illinois; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband "Bud" Cole; brother, Robert M. Drennan; sisters, Sara Edith Drennan, Elwanda White and Mary Jane Krietemeyer.

Memorials in Ruth’s memory are suggested to the Etna United Methodist Church, St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, Shriners Children’s Hospital or the donor’s choice.  

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 28, 2022 in the Swengel - O’Dell Funeral Home in Neoga, Illinois. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until service time also in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Zion Hill Cemetery in Paradise Twp., Illinois.
