David John Goldstein, 63, formerly of Effingham, IL, passed away Thursday December 15, 2022 at his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Dave was born on January 1, 1959 in Effingham, IL, the son of Donald and Anna Marie (Frey) Goldstein. He graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1977 and married his childhood sweetheart, Jayne Ann Hoelscher, on August 18, 1979. Dave and Jayne recently celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary.

Dave’s career as both a residential and commercial contractor spanned 40 years and included legacy projects such as the St. Anthony Parish Center and the Effingham Country Club. He had a big personality and an even bigger heart. He found great satisfaction in helping friends, family, and even complete strangers he encountered on the roadside. Self-driven to achieve his goals, he was most comfortable when he was championing a project, whether that project was coordinating a construction site or frying chicken at the parish picnic.

Family was always at the forefront of his mind and providing for his family gave him great joy.

David is survived by his wife, Jayne; sons Matthew (Molly) of Champaign, IL and Douglas (Candice) of Cherry Hills Village, CO; daughter Tina (Brandon) Grone of Colorado Springs, CO; parents Donald and Anna Marie Goldstein of Effingham, IL; brothers James (Sue) of Mattoon, IL, Robert (Cathy) of Teutopolis, IL, Mark (Shari) of Effingham, IL, John (Jill) of Ann Arbor, MI, and Tim (Melea) of Daleville, IN; sister Rita (Jim) Wakefield of Shumway, IL; 8 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

His family is thankful to the legion of medical professionals who participated in Dave’s journey by extending his life long enough to meet his grandchildren. He will be missed by all of us.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
