Dessie LaDonna Powell (80) of Shelbyville

Dessie LaDonna Powell, 80, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 11:18 a.m. Thursday, December 15, 2022 in Shelbyville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Shelbyville, IL.

Funeral Services will be held at noon on Monday, December 19, 2022 in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Sam Brooks officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. – noon Monday in the funeral home. A private family burial will take place in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to Traditions Hospice.

Dessie was born on August 8, 1942 in Ingraham, IL, the daughter of Russell and Mabel (Lister) Livingood. She married James C. Powell on September 20, 1958. Dessie enjoyed playing bunco, reading, going to auctions, and watching cooking shows, but most of all, she loved her family.

Dessie is survived by her husband, James Powell, Sr.; son, James Powell, Jr. (Penny) of Athens, AL; daughters, Tammy Wheeler (Tom) of Blairsville, GA and Sherrie Brooks (Sam) of Monmouth, IL; brothers, Jimmy Livingood (Mary) of Bethany, IL, and Dale Livingood (Diane) of Pana, IL; sisters, Mary Bromm of Phoenix, AZ and Nancy Earnest (Darrel) of Newton, IL; nine grandchildren, Jeromey, Jamie, Jessica, James III, Justin, Jake, Grace, Gabrielle, and Ryn; and 12 great grandchildren, Emma, Reece, Bailey, Riley, Finley, Ainsley, Genevieve, Logan, Kourtney, Jax, Everly, and Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Gary Powell; brothers, Roy, Oscar, and Donald Livingood; and sisters, Betty Byers and Thelma Basset.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Trevor Storm with Traditions Hospice and all the staff at Shelbyville Rehabilitation for the loving care they provided.
