Wayne F. Helton (86) of Strasburg

Wayne F. Helton, 86, of Strasburg, IL, passed away at 8:38 a.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2022 in his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 9, 2022 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Pastor David Ducommon and Associate Steve Harder officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Friday in the funeral home in Shelbyville, IL. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Strasburg Community Foundation or Shelby County 4-H Federation.

Wayne was born on March 16, 1936 in Henton, IL, the son of Delbert L. and Laveta P. (Richards) Helton. He graduated from Stewardson-Strasburg High School in the Class of 1954. Wayne married Sharon Kay Barkhurst on August 12, 1957. Wayne was a farmer in the Lakewood and Strasburg areas and previously owned and operated Helton Body Shop in Strasburg. He was a member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church and a former member of the Strasburg Lions Club and Strasburg Volunteer Fire Department.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Sharon; sons, James W. Helton (Marilyn) of Glen Carbon, IL and John D. Helton (Pam) of Strasburg, IL; daughter, Jacque K. Frey (Jeff) of Effingham, IL; nephew, Randy Randol of Taylorville, IL; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marilyn Randol (Robert); two nieces, Cathy and Cindy; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Dona Barkhurst.
