Michael Cupani, 75, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at his home with his family by his side.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 12, 2022 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, IL with military rites. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. on Monday at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

Michael was born on June 25, 1947, in Nicosia, Italy, the son of Sebastian and Maria (Rizzo) Cupani. He married Janet McGrath on December 16, 1972. He loved his wife, daughter, granddaughters, and family. He enjoyed all things sports and food related, especially soccer and football. Mike proudly served in the United States Navy from 1967 to 1971, serving also in Vietnam. Mike worked at M&M Mars Candy Factory in Chicago for 33 years.

Mike is survived by his wife, Janet Cupani of Effingham; daughter, Michelle (Bryan) Burford; granddaughters, Evie and Ciri; and step-grandson, Gavyn all of La Harpe, IL; brother, Joe (Cathy) Cupani of Buffalo Grove, and their children Jenny, Melissa (Jon) and Nick (Genesis); sister, Teresa (Michael) Robertson of Chicago and their son, Paul; sister-in-law and brother-in-law and friend, Laura and Clint Ward and their children, Michael and Cassie (Travone); sister-in-law, Kathy (Nick) Gross and their children Nicole (Brian), Jill (Vince), and Jennifer (Marc); sister-in-law, Debbie Wils and her children Brittany (Zach) and Brooke; brother-in-law, Wayne McGrath; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
