Haldon Simmons (90) of rural Altamont

Haldon Simmons, 90, of Moccasin, died at 2:06 a.m. Sunday, December 4, 2022 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Funeral services will be at Noon on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont with his nephew, Gary Simmons officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Moccasin with military rites by Gieseking-Schwerdtfeger V.F.W. Post #7676 and Grobengieser-Fischer American Legion, Post #512, Altamont. Visitation will be for two hours prior to service time. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
Haldon B. Simmons was born on Saturday, November 19, 1932 in rural Cowden (Dixie), Illinois to Charles F. and Irene (Sarver) Simmons. He married Jane Dial on July 16, 1955 in Grenada, MS. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired trackman with B&O Railroad. Haldon loved to be outdoors enjoying trapping and hunting coons and squirrel and observing all of nature.
He is survived by his wife of over 67 years, Jane Simmons of Moccasin; son, Danny (Mimi Mays) of Altamont; daughters, Debra Terry of Ramsey and Connie (Scott) Wagner of Findlay; brothers, Pearl (Joan) Simmons of Cowden and J.P. (Terry) Simmons of Altamont; 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and one great grandson.
He was preceded in death by; his parents; brother, Maynard Simmons; son-in-law, Tom Terry.
