Lucille Josephine Buhnerkempe, 83, of Effingham, IL, passed away Monday, November 28, 2022, at home surrounded by her loving family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 2, 2022 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. A Wake Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, followed by Visitation until 8:00 p.m., all at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis. Lucille was born March 7, 1939 in Green Creek, the daughter of John H. and Theresa M. (Waldhoff) Meyer. She married Lawrence (Larry) Buhnerkempe on April 4, 1959 at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Green Creek. Lucille was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and the St. Francis Council of Catholic Women. Lucille was a person of deep faith who passed on the wisdom of putting all things in God’s bigger hands. She shared her welcoming spirit and kind heart with everyone she met. The world is a better place because she was in it.

Lucille is survived by her husband, Larry; by her children, Geri Buhnerkempe, Sharon (Kevin) Schumacher, Sheila (Steven) Kuhns, Bruce (Jill) Buhnerkempe, Vicky (Damon) Simmons and Lisa (Marty) Siemer; by her grandchildren, Stephanie (Patrick) Pape, Becky (Jared) Daugherty, Jessica (Kyle) Pruemer, Brad (Fran) Kuhns, Kyle (Kerry) Kuhns, Jon (Morgan) Kuhns, Ben (Shelby) Kuhns, Emily (Bill) Arndt, Zoe Buhnerkempe, Anna Buhnerkempe, Andrew Simmons, Brian Simmons, Nick (Victoria) Simmons, Edward Siemer, Lauren Siemer, Joe Siemer and Gus Siemer; by 15 great-grandchildren; by her sister, Ann (Virgil) Kingery; and by her sisters-in-law, Joan Meyer, Joyce Koeberlein and Wilma Buhnerkempe.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ed and Agnes Buhnerkempe; by her infant son Lawrence Jr., by her siblings and spouses, Lawrence (Eileen) Meyer, Louis (Annie) Meyer, Gene (Jeanie) Meyer, John Meyer Jr., Theresa Mae (Harold) Meinhart, Fred (Marilyn) Meyer, Catherine (Harold) Thoele, James J. Meyer, and Gerald (Susie) Meyer; and by her inlaws, Laverne Buhnerkempe and Art (Pat) Buhnerkempe.
