Betty J. Naab (90) of Shumway

Betty J. Naab, 90, of Shumway, IL, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at her unofficial adopted son’s home in Shumway.

Services will be held at a later date with burial in Hubbartt Cemetery in Beecher City, IL. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to Effingham County Humane Society. Online condolences may be shared by clicking here. 

Betty was born on February 9, 1932, in Effingham, IL, the daughter of Laban and Lillian (McGee) Merry. She married Clifford Naab on December 17, 1954, and he preceded her in death on August 11, 2011. Betty was a bookkeeper briefly at FS before farming alongside her husband, Clifford. She loved animals, especially dogs. Betty always enjoyed an iced cold Dr. Pepper.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Sue Rielly of California; nieces, Carol Owens and Debbie Burtle both of Illinois; brother, Orville Merry of Effingham; “unofficial adopted son”, David (wife, Donna) Parks of Shumway; unofficial adopted granddaughter, Tiffany (Chris) Roads; and unofficial adopted greatgrandchildren, Sawyer and Sadie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 2 infant children, Tammy and David; and sister-in-law, Jean Merry.
