Arthur Thomas “Tom” Walker, 89, of Watson, IL, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at Watson Baptist Church in Watson. Burial will be in Watson Cemetery in Watson. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 31, 2022 at the Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the donor’s choice. Tom was born on February 2, 1933, in Watson, IL, the son of William and Carrie (Ledbetter) Walker. He married Edna M. Jacobs on July 25, 1958, in Watson, and she preceded him in death on August 23, 2008. Tom worked at Illinois Central Railroad for many years. After retirement, Tom was on the Watson Village Board. He attended Watson Baptist Church in Watson. Tom enjoyed hunting, going dancing, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was also an avid storyteller and never met a stranger. Tom is survived by his daughters, Louise Limes of Effingham, Velinda (Jeff) Sinkler of Louisville, and Carrie Jo (Todd) Slingerland of Altamont; grandchildren, Beth Ann (Brent) Baker, Nicole Qualls (special friend, Lonnie Parker), Bianca AlWali, Jessica (Kendall) Thomas, Adam Sinkler (special friend, Alisha Jewell), Zoey (Luke) Mitchell, and Toby Slingerland; 5 great-grandchildren, sister, Flossie Lucille Rush; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edna; sister, Glenna Arnold, Lorena Prather, Lee “Bill” Walker, Lenora Rainey, Albina Jamison, Robert “Bob” Walker, and Louise French.
