Virgil Carson, 80, of Brownstown, died at 11:10 p.m., Thursday, October 27, 2022, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at Liberty Christian Church, rural Brownstown with Clayton Richison officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, October 31, 2022 and for one hour prior to service time all at the church. Memorials may be made to Liberty Cemetery or Bond Christian Service Camp, Greenville. Gieseking Funeral Home, Brownstown is assisting the family with arrangements.

Virgil Junior Carson was born on Sunday, December 14, 1941 in Bluff City, IL to Virgil and Ethel (Swofford) Carson. He married Catherine Grace Friese on August 5, 1960 in Effingham. She preceded him in death on May 14, 2018. He was a member of Liberty Christian Church. He was a farmer and had worked for Taylor Ready Mix, Vandalia.

He is survived by his son, Duane (Tammy) Carson, Brownstown; daughters, Dana (Eric) Morris, Altamont and Denise McElory of Assumption; sisters, Charlotte (Jim) Atwood of Brownstown, Sharon (Paul) Sidwell, of Brownstown, and Melody (Russ) Howard of Ramsey; 7 Grandchildren; Kevin (Jennifer) Morris, Eddie (Kayla) Carson, Katie (Taevan) Schad, Chloe Carson, Lucas, Gabe, and Nathan McElroy; 5 Great Grandchildren, Hannah and Kassie Morris, Judah and Rosie Schad and Daniel Carson.

In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Daniel Jason Carson, son-in-law, Ryan McElroy, brothers, Lloyd and Michael Carson.
