Linus Richard Nosbisch, 60, of St Francis Township, Illinois, passed away suddenly on Monday, October 10, 2022.

Linus was born April 6, 1962, the son of Adolph and Anna Mae (Kroeger) Nosbisch. He was a 1980 graduate of Teutopolis High School, where he ran cross-country, received a State Farmer award from the FFA, and earned an SIU Carbondale journalism award for his work with the high school newspaper.

After his father’s sudden death, Linus became a lifelong farmer in partnership with his brother Ken. They farmed together for 44 years and had a successful grain and livestock operation. He was a Farm Bureau member and served on the Effingham County Farm Bureau Board for many years. He was often a voting delegate, representing Effingham County at state and national meetings. Linus was currently serving as a trustee on the St Francis Township Board, and because of his caregiving role, he was also on the Board of Directors of Effingham Area Alzheimer’s Awareness (EAAA).

Linus was a member of St Francis of Assisi parish in Teutopolis and also was an active leader in the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.

Linus was a lover of sports and refereed, umpired, and coached over the years.

He was also proud to carry on the Three Kings tradition, joined a group in 1992, and performed for the next 30 years. He followed in his father’s and Uncle John Nosbisch’s footsteps, who were in a Kings group in the 1940s.

Linus is survived by his brother Ken (Shannon) Nosbisch and four sisters, Connie Nosbisch of Effingham, Marlene (Dave Nowosielski) Nosbisch of Woodlawn, Karen (Frank) Mulholland of Shelbyville, and Sharon Nosbisch of Sharpsburg, Maryland.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Linus was devoted to all his family, caring for his grandmother and then as the principal caregiver for his mother after her heart attack and Alzheimer’s diagnosis. His siblings, nieces and nephews—Sarah, Ryan, Chris, Laura, Shawn, Alyssa, Kelvin, Rachel, Amy, Daniel, Lee--and all their children were always uppermost on his mind. He never forgot a birthday and hosted many family gatherings. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him for the loving, generous, and kind-hearted person he was.

In keeping with his giving nature, his final gift was donating tissues to Gift of Hope.

At his request, he will be cremated and interred at St. Francis Cemetery. A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 17, 2022 at St Francis of Assisi Church in Teutopolis. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the church with a Knights of Columbus rosary to follow. Memorial donations may be given to the donor’s choice or EAAA. Arrangements are in the care of Bauer Funeral Home in Teutopolis.
