Wayne P. Carrell, 91, of Toledo, IL passed away at 7:44 am Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the Odd Fellow Rebekah Home in Mattoon, IL.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Wednesday October 12, 2022, at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Toledo. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at the funeral chapel. Masonic Rites will be given at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, just prior to the funeral service. Burial with Military Rites by the Cumberland County Veterans will be in the Toledo Cemetery.
Wayne was born on May 10, 1931, in Toledo, IL., the son of Joseph and Blanche (Jones) Carrell. He married Charlotte Soliday on October 13, 1951, and she preceded him on September 12, 2020.
Survivors include son Dean (Marilyn) Carrell; daughter Debbie Craig; six grandchildren Glenna (Jason) Henderson, Cari Mullaney, Michelle (Justin) Babbs, David (Jenny) Craig, Jennifer Craig, and Amanda Craig; sister Edna Belcher; 11 great grandchildren Gabe, Evan, A.J., and Malory Henderson, Kyla Thornton, Aidan and Anna Carrell, Rileigh and Macie Babbs, Lily Longoria, and Allison Craig.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; son in law Gary Craig; brother John Carrell; grandson Aaron Carrell and two great grandchildren Kenzie Babbs and Isabella Craig.
Wayne served his country as a Staff Sargent in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for 30 plus years. He owned Wayne’s Sharpening Service that he started in 1984. Wayne was a member of the Cottonwood United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School there for many years. He was a life member of the Toledo Masonic Lodge #834 AF & AM, as well as a member of the Danville Consistory a 32nd degree mason, and the American Legion Post #764, in Toledo, IL. Wayne and Charlotte loved spending their winters vacationing in Rio Hondo, Texas. Memorials can be made to the Toledo Masonic Lodge Scholarship Fund or the Lincoln Land Hospice.
