Jay A. Kersey (69) of Effingham

Jay A. Kersey, 69, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2022 at his home in Effingham after a three-year battle with cancer.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday, October 10, 2022 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Jay will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery at a later date.
Jay was born July 25, 1953 in Effingham, the son of George G. and Jacqueline E. (Steele) Kersey. He was a 1971 graduate of Effingham High School. Jay managed the local skating rink during the early 70s and also did square dance calling with his parents. He worked at various businesses in Effingham including Montgomery Ward, Schwan’s, and later retired from Petty/ Quad Graphics. Jay married Ruth (Baker) Epperson on July 3, 1999. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #1016, enjoyed playing leagues at the Cardinal Golf Course, and threw bags with the “Effing Baggers.”
Jay is survived by his wife, Ruth; son, Jason (Melissa) Kersey; daughter, Jennifer (Adam) Torbeck; grandchildren, Alexis (Zach Cornett) Torbeck; Evelyn Torbeck, AJ, and Emma Kersey; brothers, Mike and Brian (Kim) Kersey; his twin sister, Jan (Sam) Tucker and sister, Colleen (Todd) Gartner.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Jessica Epperson.
