Richard Eugene Freeman, 75, of Louisville passed away at 6:12 am Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.

Richard was born on January 8, 1947, in Edgewood, Illinois, the son of Lawrence E. and Norma Rose (Lambert) Freeman. He served his country honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He then returned home and married Janis Blair on July 5, 1969 at the Wabash Baptist Church, and they shared 53 years of marriage. Richard had worked various factory jobs over the years, with some including Best Homes in Effingham, Spartans in Flora, and Nova Solutions in Effingham. In Richard’s youth he loved to shoot guns and hunt mushrooms, then in later years he was an avid reader especially anything history related, and work crossword puzzles. Richard was an avid Cardinal baseball fan and was a member of the Wabash Baptist Church.

Richard is survived by his wife: Janis Freeman of Louisville; his children: Eric Lawrence Freeman of Westerville, Ohio, Toby Allen (Nikki) Freeman of Louisville, Jared Eugene Freeman of Louisville; 2 grandchildren: Killian Orian Freeman, and Hayley J. Marie Freeman.

Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Hank Daniel Freeman, Galen Rex Freeman.

Funeral services honoring the life of Richard will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, September 17, 2022 at the McGriff Funeral Home in Louisville with Randy McElroy officiating. Burial with military graveside honors will follow at the Christian Home Cemetery, rural Louisville. Visitation will be held on Saturday morning at the funeral home where friends may call from 11:00 am to 12 Noon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Richard’s memory to the Clay County Hospice or the Wabash Baptist Church.
