Lila Evelyn Plummer (79) of Effingham

A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, August 26 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham followed by burial of her ashes in Mt. Zion Cemetery in rural Dieterich. A time of visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. She was born November 26, 1942 in Crawford County, rural Oblong. She was the daughter of David Leander Edward York and Sattie Velma (Parrish) York. Lila was a quiet person, soft-spoken with a beautiful smile shared with others. She worked for CEFS Economic Opportunity Corp as an administrative secretary for nearly 40 yrs upon retiring in 2008. Lila was a top fan of the St. Louis Cardinals team and Elvis music and movies! She especially enjoyed western line dancing/ square dancing in her 50's. She loved loving on her children and grandchildren; gifting them whenever she could give her great joy!
Lila was married to Jerry K. Plummer from 1960 to 1989. The surviving children from this union are a son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Marcia Plummer of Byram, MS, and her daughter and son-in-law, Christy and John Nuckolls of Normal; seven grandchildren, Nicole, Jennifer, Rebecca, Erica, Chad, Daniel, and Nathan; 15 great-grandchildren; her brother, Irvin York of Oblong; sisters, Rosalie Chapman of Lafayette, IN and Vera and Brent Gilliland of Irondale, AL; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Mervin, Howard and Elder York; four sisters, Edna York, Anna Mae Cunningham, Iona Newell and Nina Woods.
