Ruth Pauline Tooley (89) of Shelbyville

Ruth Pauline Tooley, 89, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2022 at Shelbyville Manor, Shelbyville, IL.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at Macon Cemetery, Macon, IL with Gary Crowder officiating. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society and mailed to Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, 415 North Broadway, Shelbyville, IL 62565.

Ruth was born at home on February 23, 1933 in Pleasant View Township, Macon County, IL, the daughter of Ernest Art and Sarah Jane (Pickel) Canaday. She graduated from Blue Mound High School. She married Walter LeRoy Rohdemann on April 11, 1952 and he preceded her in death on July 4, 1958. Together, they had three children, Charles, Benny, and Peggy. Ruth worked at Gene and Barney’s and later as a secretary at the First United Methodist Church, both in Shelbyville, IL. She married Donald W. Tooley on July 24, 1968, and he preceded her in death on May 21, 2014. Ruth was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville, and enjoyed taking trips.

Ruth is survived by her sons, Charles Rohdemann and wife Sharon of Shelbyville, IL, and Benny Rohdemann of Shelbyville, IL; sister, Wilma Stuart and husband Bill of Mt. Zion, IL; five grandchildren, Shannon, Shawn, Charli, Aaron, and Rebecca; and seven great grandchildren, Haley, Cody, Alexis, Maxwell, Grant, Parker, and Alexandria.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Walter LeRoy Rohdemann and Donald W. Tooley; daughter, Peggy Shrake; two brothers, Jim and Bob Canaday; and one sister, Phyllis Lockwood.
