Doris Emma (Raab) Gartner (87) of Effingham

Doris Emma (Raab) Gartner, of Effingham, IL, passed away at home on Saturday July 16, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.

Doris was born in Carlinville, Illinois, on November 26, 1934, the daughter of Earl and Agnes (Johnson) Raab. She graduated from Carlinville High School in 1952. Doris married James Richard Gartner on November 28, 1954 in Carlinville. Their marriage lasted 67 years. Doris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her marriage took her to St. Louis, Missouri; Lawton, Oklahoma; Chicago, Illinois and finally Effingham where she lived for 60 years.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents, in-laws Orin and Helen (Westhoff) Gartner of Litchfield, IL, brother-in-law Arthur Eldridge, sister-in-law Kathy Raab, and son-in-law Michael Zanger.

Doris is survived by her husband; sister, Norma Eldridge; brother, Lloyd Raab; sister-in-law, and brotherin-law, Jomarilyn and Howard Hartke, and sister-in-law, Judy Gartner. She is also survived by her five children: Vicki (Paul) Zinni of Roselle, IL; Megan Zanger of Edwardsville, IL; Todd (Colleen) Gartner of Paducah, KY; Laura (Terry) Braun of Teutopolis, IL; and Jennifer Frese of Overland Park, KS. Her twelve grandchildren are Jules (fiancée, Celeste Castiglinoni) Zinni and James (Kim) Zinni of Roselle, IL; Michael (Su) Zanger and Zachary (fiancée, Erin Rote) Zanger of Edwardsville, IL; Ryne (Crystal) Gartner of Bardwell, KY; Madison (Gartner) and Justin Hagan of Paducah, KY; Dannie Braun of Effingham; Jessie (Braun) and Derek Gorrell of Newton, IL; Trey (Kristen) Braun of America; Taylor (Frese) and Ryan Robertson of Olathe, KS; Abbey Frese of Tempe, AZ; and Diane (Frese) and Justin Monaco of Leawood, KS. And eleven great-grandchildren.

Doris was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church where she was a part of the Braille group and helped with Vacation Bible School. She spent many years as a volunteer at the Cross at the Crossroads. She enjoyed Dine and Dance, bridge with her friends, reading, knitting, traveling in the car, and puzzles with Jim.
