Wilma Jestine "Jess" Evans (91) of Effingham

Wilma Jestine “Jess” Evans, 91, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at her daughter’s home in Washington, IN.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2022, at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Entombment will be in the Arborcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church in Effingham or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Jess was born on October 6, 1930, Banner, Missouri, the daughter of Gentry Willard and Trula (Fryman) Hutchings. She married Darald L. Evans on September 25, 1946, and he preceded her in death on November 27, 2004. Jess enjoyed crocheting and reading her Bible. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Effingham and enjoyed caring for the children in the nursery at church. She started working at the age of twelve and had many jobs over the years. She retired from Sponge Cushion in Morris, IL. She liked traveling to Missouri for family reunions and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Jess is survived by her children, Darald Lee “Scot” Evans Jr. (Gayle) of Kinsman, IL, Donald W. Evans (Ellen) of Morris, IL, Phyllis J. Harrison (Doug) of Washington, IN, James R. Evans (Annette) of Morris, IL, and Judy Evans of Teutopolis, and Georgia Huntington of Effingham; many grandchildren; many greatgrandchildren; and siblings, Geraldine King, Gentry “Sonny” Hutchings, Donna Titsworth, and Edward “June Bug” Robertson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Darald Evans; children, Leo Ernie “Beau” Evans and Glenn Dale Evans; and siblings, Syble Ogrzewalla, Wanda Hawkins, Patricia Evans, Charlene Amburgy, Rick Hutchings, and Betty Lefler.
