Lorraine T. Johnson age 81, passed away Friday, July 8, 2022 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham, Illinois.

Funeral services celebrating Lorraine’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Newton. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday in the church. Burial will be in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Newton.

Lorraine was born on June 12, 1941, in West Salem, Illinois the daughter of Kern and Thelma (Lemke) Doty. On February 8, 1963, Lorraine married H. Deneen Johnson in Mattoon, Illinois. Lorraine and Deneen shared forty-one years together before his passing on June 11, 2004. For several years, Lorraine worked at Wolford's Flower Shop. She then worked E. R. Moore, sewing caps and gowns until her retirement. She loved spending time visiting and babysitting her grandchildren. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church. In her free time, Lorraine enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, playing solitaire and pinochle, and spending time with her friends. 

Lorraine will be loved and remembered by her daughters Tammy George, husband Mike of Lee’s Summit, MO, Gwen Quick, husband Larry of Newton and Shelly Kidwell, husband Ryan of Oblong; grandchildren Tanner George, wife Tiffany of Lee’s Summit, MO, Dylan George, wife Jordan of Green Bay, WI, Connor Quick of Newton, Gage Kidwell of Princeton, IN, Grant Kidwell and Genna Kidwell both of Oblong; great-grandchildren Brinley George, Mila George, Vincent George and a new great grandbaby due in October; brothers Maynard Doty of Fairfield and Kendall Doty, wife Pat of Carbondale;sister-in-law Liz Doty of Flora and brother-in-law Randy Johnson, wife Daylene of Effingham; several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

Her parents, husband Deneen, brother Daryl Doty, sister Rosalie Walters and sister-in-law and brother-n-law Barbara and Dennis Whightsel preceded her in death.

Memorial gifts may be made to either the Shiners Children’s Hospital or to the Jasper County Cancer Support Fund.
