Dorothea Mae Summers age 86 of Noble, Illinois passed away Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Deaconess Midtown, Evansville, Indiana.

Funeral services celebrating Dorothea’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2022 at the Glenwood Church in Noble with Pastors Doyle Williams and Bill Bunnage officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 16 in the church. Burial will be in the Hanna Cemetery, Noble, Illinois. With respect to the expected high temperatures, the family requests casual attire for the services.

Dorothea was born on April 5, 1936 in Wayne County, Illinois the daughter of Floyd and Frances (Penrod) Bunnage. Dorothea married Dean Ray Summers on April 5, 1956, after their Friday shift at the International Shoe Factory. They shared fifty-four years together, raising their family and working together on the farm, before Dean’s death on July 24, 2010.

Dorothea worked at the shoe factory for twenty-four years until its closing in the late 1970’s. She enjoyed working alongside Dean on the farm and was an avid gardener. For thirty-seven years, she sold her produce at the Richland County Farmers’ Market. For many years, she helped at the Olney Greenhouse, transplanting seedlings and helping during the busy holidays. In her later years, she enjoyed taking bus trips. Her travels took her to most of the lower 48 states. Dorothea attended the Glenwood Church.

She will be loved and remembered by her children Paul (Brenda) Summers, John (Allyson) Summers and Julie (David Weger) Summers all of Noble; six grandchildren Natalie (Dylan) Tabbert of Stewardson, Brad Muentener, Connor Summers, David Summers, Tyler Summers and Max Summers all of Noble; brother Frank (Anne) Bunnage of Mt. Erie; sister Flava Bunting of Albion; sisters-in-law Ruth Bunnage of Fairfield and Esther Bunnage of Golden Gate; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents, husband Dean, brother and sister-in-law Harold and Elinor Bunnage and brothers Carl Bunnage and Nile Bunnage preceded her in death.

Memorial gifts may be made to either the Glenwood Church or the Hanna Cemetery Care Fund.
