Horace Emerson Ebbert, 92, of Montrose, Illinois, passed away at 10:27 PM Friday, June 10, 2022, at Evergreen Nursing Home in Effingham, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois with Rev. Gene Creek officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service. The family request casual wear. Burial will be in the Island Creek Cemetery in rural Montrose, Illinois with full military honors by the Jasper Post #20 American Legion. In loving memory of Horace, memorials may be made to the Life Center of Cumberland County or the Jasper County Senior Citizens Center. Horace Emerson was born on September 7, 1929 in rural Montrose, Illinois, the son of Ross and Mable (Wishard) Ebbert. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Horace worked for over 50 years for Caterpillar. In his spare time, he enjoyed farming. He was a member of the IAM- International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
Horace is survived by-Brother- Richard Ebbert of Montrose, Illinois; Nieces – Sherry (Mike) Weber and Karen (John) Lowe; Nephews – Steve (Brenda) Ebbert; Terry (Beverly) Ebbert; Scott (Pam) Ebbert and Todd (Celia) Ebbert; Sister-in-law – Betty Ebbert of Wheeler, Illinois; Several great nieces and great nephews also survive.
Horace was preceded in death by his parents, sister Cora Belle Wise, brothers Robert Eugene, Edwin Eiler and Warren G. “Doc” Ebbert, great nephews Nate Ebbert and Kyle Wise.
