William Halbert Newby Jr. 70 years old, of Altamont formerly of Flora, Illinois passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon June 9, 2022 at 3:43 PM at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham Illinois after a few years of a lingering illness.

Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday June 13, 2022, for family and friends at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Altamont, Illinois, with Rev. Dr. James F. Wright officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Cemetery at a later date.

William Newby Jr. was born into the Christian family one of 3 siblings to William Sr and Marjorie Winchester-Newby. He was born on June 30,1951 in the Clay County Hospital, Flora, Illinois. Jr Newby graduated from Flora High School with the class of 1969. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy and served in the Viet Nam Conflict and Cambodia as an advanced radio operator, enlisting to serve his country in 1972.

JR had firm interest in wood working. JR was part owner of a Furniture Factory, he built China cabinets with curved glass doors. JR loved car racing on dirt tracks and built and owned race cars. JR competed in Gun Shooting composition at various gun ranges. After meeting later married Beverly Ann Schultz on July 1, 2006, in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altamont, they resided in Altamont. His last employment was with Frederking Construction until his health failed him, and he was forced to retire from the work force. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Memorials may be directed to the choice of the donor.
