Donald C. “Don” Deters, 85 of Lillyville, passed away Wednesday evening, June 1, 2022 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lillyville, with burial in the church cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the church with a 7:00 p.m. parish prayer service. Don was born November 12, 1936, the son of Ray and Laura (Feldhake) Deters. He married Barbara Helmink on October 10, 1959 and they were parents of seven children. Don was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lillyville, Sacred Heart Holy Name Society, Effingham Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1769, Teutopolis American Legion Post #924 and the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus Council #2874. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran from 1954-1957 and worked as transportation director, vehicle mechanic and bus driver for Teutopolis Unit 50 for over 40 years. Don enjoyed playing cards, camping, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family, whom he loved dearly.

Don is survived by his sons, Dave (Patty) of Grand Junction, CO, Brian (Kathy) of Fredericksburg, VA and Bruce (Lynn) of Montrose; daughters, Debra Wendt of Effingham, Vicky (Tim) Gress of Mansfield and Lylah (Kevin) Flach of Montrose; brothers Robert of Teutopolis and Harold of Decatur; sister Bernice Broom of Teutopolis; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; brother, Bill; daughter, Marilyn and son-in-law, Larry Wendt.
