Nora June Cordes (82) of Toledo

Nora June Cordes, 82, of Toledo, IL. passed away on Monday, May 30, 2022, at 11:00 pm at Copper Creek Cottages in Mattoon, IL.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Monday June 6, 2022, at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Toledo, IL. Visitation will be from 9:30 am to service time on Monday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in the Toledo Cemetery.

June was born on July 3, 1939, in Cumberland County, IL, the daughter of Holly and Flora (Warner) Croy. She married Charles William Cordes Jr. on September 27, 1958, and he preceded her in 2006.

She is survived by her sons, Byron (Brenda Weber) Cordes and Mike Cordes; daughter; Gail (Keith) Petri; grandchildren, Brian and Joy Cordes, Bradley (Sara Madren) Cordes, Jake (Jamie) Petri, and Nichole Petri; great-grandchildren, Hazel Cordes, Bill Cordes, Ellie Petri, and Charlie Petri; 8 brothers: Robert, Alvin, Joe, Hank, Jesse, Holly “Chief,” Hue, and Guy Croy; 6 sisters: Lois Dryden, Sue Beach, Ann Gentry, Sharon Davidson, Donna Blain, and Amy Veltkamp; 1 stepbrother: Mark Dutiel; and 2 stepsisters: Julie Eblin and Lynn Uptain.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother; a sister: Lettie Croy; and two brothers: James and Carl Croy.

June worked as a supervisor for the phone company for over 20 years. She also worked at Petty Printing Company for 5 years. June served on the Sumpter Township Library Board. In the past, she was a 4-H leader. She was a member of the Toledo United Methodist Church where she sang in the Choir and a member of the Illinois Home Extension for 30+ years. She loved gardening, her flowers, cooking, fishing, and hunting but was mostly known for her bread baking.
