Gordon Price (77) of Shumway

Gordon Price, 77, of Shumway, IL, died Sunday, May 5, 2013 in his residence. 

He was born May 8, 1935 in Oconee, IL, the son of Malcolm & Blanche Cook Price.  Gordon attended Pana High School, completing his 11th year.  He had lived in Shelbyville, Tower Hill, Oconee, Pana, Effingham, & Shumway.  Gordon was a professional cattle buyer and auctioneer.  He started buying livestock and auctioneering at age 12.  He was a successful owner and operator of several businesses throughout his life.  He built the Shelbyville Sale Barn, owned & operated the Pana Sale Barn, and designed the Salem Auction barn.  He also had the livestock buying station in Shumway.  His work was his passion.  Gordon loved horseracing, reading his Bible, entertaining & feeding people.  He was also a member of the National Auctioneers Association; Illinois Auctioneers Association; Knobs Baptist Church.
Gordon Price and Victoria L. Bedar were united in marriage on July 8, 1989 in Pana.

He is survived by his wife: Victoria Price, Shumway, IL; children: Carol Spracklen & husband Kenny, Pana, IL; Gene Price & wife Kathy, Pana, IL; Lowell Kircher & wife Lori, Shelbyville, IL; Cathy Pauley & husband Bob, Pana, IL; Sharon Smith & husband Gary, Pana, IL; Myron Kircher & wife Kathy, Oconee, IL; Michael John Kircher & wife Cheryl, Herrick, IL; Brad Weakly & wife Colette, Highland, IL; Laura Paruleski & husband Dave, Shumway, IL; Marvin Weakly & wife Lynn, Elsberry, MO; and Don Niehart & wife Breanne, Effingham, IL; 35 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; lifelong “Sister”: Virginia Harbert, Herrick, IL; and main man: Tom Morrow, Shumway, IL. 

He was preceded in death by his mother in 1948; father in 1989; step mother, Mildred Price in 1987; brother: Lee Price in January 2013; step brother: John Pope.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home in Pana.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 10, 2013 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Randy Miller & Pastor Steve Neville officiating.  In keeping with Gordon’s wishes, everyone should wear casual attire and/or blue jeans and cowboy hats.  Gordon will be buried in Price Cemetery, Oconee in an above ground mausoleum upon its completion.  In keeping with what Gordon loved to do, which was feed his family and friends, please join us at the United in Faith Church, Pana immediately following the funeral service for a fully catered meal.
