Dale “Dumpy” Denton, 85, of Herrick, Illinois, formerly of Cowden, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2022, in the comfort of his home.

Visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, April 10, in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 11, in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden with Reverend Darrell Hinkle officiating. Burial will take place in Mound Cemetery in rural Cowden. Memorials may be made in his name to the Cowden First Responders or Herrick First Responders and mailed to Lockart-Green Funeral Home, 302 W. Dale was born May 5, 1936, in Cowden, the son of Thomas and Thelma (Barnes) Denton. Dale and Linda Moffett Thompson were united in holy matrimony March 28, 1980, in Cowden, and were blessed with 42 years of marriage. Dale was a machinist with Caterpillar International in Decatur for 30 years and during his retirement he did machine work for the local farmers. He enjoyed arrowhead hunting, mushroom hunting, fishing, camping and visiting with friends and family. Dale and Linda attended the United Methodist Church in Cowden.

Surviving are his loving wife, Linda Denton of Herrick; father-in-law, Donald Moffett of Cowden; children: Nikki (Michael) Fleck of Olathe, KS, Kelly (Steve) Cole of Bethany, Dawn (Stephen) Jarboe of Herrick, Eric (Nikki Mathison) Denton of Pana, Bryan Thompson of Herrick, Aaron (Anita) Thompson of Herrick, Darren (Nina) Thompson of Herrick and Travis (Rhonda) Thompson of Beecher City; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sister, Helen “Po” Miller of Decatur and brother, Robert (Marge) Denton of Effingham.

He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law, Helen Moffett and brother, William E. Denton.
