Anthony H. “Tony” Schumacher, 91 of Teutopolis, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2022 at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham.

Per his wishes, Tony was cremated and a memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2022 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis. Inurnment will be in St. Francis Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, prior to mass at the church in the St. Clare Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the American Cancer Society. Services are in the care of Bauer Funeral Home in Teutopolis.

Tony was born on June 12, 1930 on his grandfather’s farm in Lillyville to Otto and Agnes (Deters) Schumacher. He graduated from Teutopolis Community High School in 1948, and proudly served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict. Tony married Roseann Niemerg on February 4, 1956 at St. Aloysius Church in Bishop Creek, and they were blessed with five children. He retired as head of security at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in 1995. He was a faithful member of St. Francis of Assisi parish in Teutopolis for over 60 years and was a member and served as chaplain for the Teutopolis American Legion Post 924 for many years. He was also a member of the Effingham VFW Post 1769 and the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus.

Tony is survived by his wife of 66 years, Roseann, and his children, Steve of Neoga; Joyce (Terry Klitzing) of St. Elmo, Joan (Ken Hoerr) of Troy, MO; and son-in-law, Charles Anderson of Elmhurst. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Janice Anderson, who passed away in 2021 and Linda, who passed away in 1974; brothers, Joseph and Charles; sister, Madonna Lustig and infant sister, Catherine Schumacher.
