Donald Alva Johnson, age 94, of Wheeler, Illinois, passed away at 2:53 PM – Wednesday, February 23, 2022, Aperion Care in Bridgeport, Illinois.

 

Masonic Rites, followed by funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM – Sunday, March 6, 2022, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. Burial will be in the Wheeler Cemetery, with full military rites by the Jasper Post #20 American Legion.   Visitation will be held 1 hour before the service, at the funeral home. Donald was born on September 28, 1927, in Newton, Illinois, the son of Dee and Viola (Meyer) Johnson. He married Shirley Knepper October 2, 1948, and she preceded him in death on March 23, 2003.

Donald was a farmer. He was a 72-year member of the Winterrowd Masonic Lodge and a life member of the Jasper Post #20 American Legion.

Donald served his country in United States Army from October 4, 1946, until his honorable discharge on March 19, 1948.

Donald enjoyed quail hunting and visiting with friends.

Grandchildren - Lori Johnson (JD Finn), Wendy Dobbins (Chet Dobbins), Jacob Johnson (Mercedes Unkraut)

Great Grandchildren - Tori Dobbins, Dylan Doucette, Sydney Dobbins, Ellie Dobbins and Jocelyn Johnson; Siblings - Ruth Hutchison of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Lois Strole of Newton, Illinois; Delain Johnson of Urbana, Illinois; Paul Johnson of Newton, Illinois; Madonna (Lawrence) Klier of Newton, Illinois; Zana (Kendall) Tarr of Newton, Illinois and Cheryl (Bill) Dunn of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister Rita Pickens, brother Cloyce Johnson and father and mother-in-law Madison and Lucille (Clagg) Knepper.
